Step-by-step booking guide

How to book a BSL interpreter in the UK

Prepare the right information, request availability and a quote, and know what to check before you confirm. You can use the free checklist or contact cSeeker directly if your details are ready.

Five steps to a clearer BSL interpreter booking

1. Confirm the person's communication preference

Ask the Deaf person what communication support they want. Do not assume that BSL is right for everyone: they may request a BSL interpreter, Deaf Relay, speech-to-text, a lipspeaker or another professional.

2. Give the date, time and place

Include the exact start and finish times and whether the booking is onsite, online or hybrid.

  • For onsite work, give the venue, town or city and postcode.
  • For online work, name the platform; the joining link can follow later.
  • If a detail is not decided, mark it clearly as “to be confirmed”.

3. Explain the purpose and who is involved

Describe the setting and topic: for example, a workplace meeting, interview, medical appointment, training course, legal meeting, conference or public event. Add the expected number of Deaf people and any specialist subject matter.

4. Mention recording and the likely team

Say whether there will be photography, recording or livestreaming. Long, intensive, stage or broadcast assignments may need more than one interpreter, but the agency should recommend the appropriate team after reviewing the full booking.

5. Share preparation and access information

Send useful material as early as you can: an agenda, slides, scripts, speaker names, specialist vocabulary, venue access, parking, room layout, stage position or dress code. If it is not ready, say when it will follow.
